SUMMER PREVIEWS GALORE
When we think of the Soap Opera we think of the television version first, then there are the new wave of audio dramas that have taken the internet by storm. But there is still the great, quick, bingeworthy Text-Based series that, in the last few months, has grown exponentially to feed our ever soap craving soap minds.
When THE PHIX FILES first started back in 2023, there were only 6 series. That has more than doubled with two new series headed for our screens THIS SUMMER!
Not only has Casey Hutchison returned to the written world of drama (along with many other projects) with WHISPERS IN WILLOW CREEEK, but JACK EDINGTON is back too!
Edington, the writer/creator of Phixie Award Winning Series GLENDALE, is prepping for a Summer releases of the much-anticipated HOUSE OF REDGRAGE.
We caught up with Jack in our PHIX SIX feature to get the dish & the drama!
PHIX FILES: Hi Jack! When last we left you, you were hot off the heels of winning the 2025 Phixie Award for Series Of The Year for Glendale. That series unfortunately for us moved on to a different genre but thankfully you’re returning to the web serial world with a new series this summer! Tell us a little about HOUSE OF REDGRAVE.
JACK EDINGTON: Hello! I’m still humbled and in disbelief about that win, to be honest, and I genuinely miss sharing Glendale with you. Like, genuinely miss it. I’m still writing it when time permits—2025 has been a horrible year privately—but the residents of Glendale are still very much alive and kicking, and hopefully one day soon you’ll be able to read it in some form.
But House of Redgrave is something that has helped settle my mind and provide a distraction. It has been fun to write something that’s just soapy and juicy and dramatic.
It is a series about the Redgrave family, a dynastic US political force of two presidents (and a failed candidate) and countless governors and senators. They’re old money, they have almost unfettered power, and they will stop at nothing to ensure that the house always wins—especially matriarch Clara, who may appear as soft and sweet as a marshmallow but is anything but.
We follow the family over the course of a few months as cracks in the foundations dramatically widen and the carefully curated house of Redgrave begins to crumble from within.
PHIX: What made you decide to write a series based in the states vs the UK as in your previous series?
JACK: I had this idea for some time about a dynastic family that will pretty much do anything to retain power, and it felt more believable in an American setting than a British one. The Redgraves are supposed to be at the very heart of national politics, and while that /could/ work in the context of a dynastic family of British prime ministers or something, I feel it is more realistic and much more fun to be a ridiculously wealthy and ruthless American family of presidents, governors, and senators.
PHIX: What do you feel makes HOR stand out in comparison to Glendale?
JACK: Besides the settings being completely different, HOR is definitely designed as a limited-run series. I have two seasons (24 episodes) planned, and I feel like it comes to a solid, natural conclusion. Also, whereas Glendale was centered on a more realistic tone, HOR is designed to purely be dramatic and fun. It is also quite fast-paced. It is a limited run, so I wanted it to pique your attention at the start and quickly begin to build as twist after twist and cliffhanger after cliffhanger are thrown at you before it grabs you by the throat in the finale.
PHIX: This series seems steeped in family drama in a way that feels very “Dynasty”, and dare I say even “Succession”. Is that a fair comparison?
JACK: There is definitely some “Dynasty” and “The Crown” inspiration going on. I imagine it having more of a primetime feel. This family is a mess, and I hope as the story goes along people are entertained by some of the twists and turns. As I said earlier, the house always wins, and they will do whatever it takes to make sure that remains the case.
PHIX: Tell me about the process on building this series? Was it any different from your previous works?
JACK: It is actually an idea that has been ruminating for some time. The original idea is written in a notebook from 2001. Then, when I wrote the 20th anniversary/farewell to my other series, “Spencer Street,” the character of Isabelle was written as returning for a visit after marrying a US senator. That sparked something, and it seemed to be a perfect match with the earlier idea. So, it is technically a spin-off from “Spencer Street”. It’s also been good having this as a limited run, as I could plot everything to ensure we have a beginning, a middle, and an end.
PHIX: Now is the even more fun part, give us the dish on what we can expect from HOUSE OF REDGRAVE all summer long.
JACK: You can expect pure soap, twists, bombshells, drama, blackmail, death, destruction, drama, backstabbing, sex, and did I mention drama? I wanted it to be an enjoyable roller coaster. This family is a mess, and as we go along, there’s bomb after bomb lobbed their way. I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. We start the season with "Cracks in the Foundations" and end with "Red, White, and Blood," so make of that what you will.

This summer, the question everyone in King's Bay will be asking is: 'Who killed Loretta Ragan?' With Natalie seemingly cleared and Elly now the focus of the investigation, the truth about that night is starting to take shape -- but Travis and Elly are hiding something about the night Loretta died, and both Spencer and Rosie will become determined to figure out what that something is. Before the summer is over, someone will be arrested for the murder, and then it's full-steam-ahead to a trial that will rock the town.
Meanwhile, the person stalking Sabrina steps up their efforts, and the audience will become privy to a shocking revelation before the characters. Tori is touched when Landon invites Lucy to stay at his apartment for her safety, but this move could put all three of them -- plus Landon and Tori's budding romance -- in greater danger. The Fishers are desperate to find a bone marrow donor for Tim and Sonja's young son, TJ, who is growing sicker by the day from aplastic anemia, and when they do identify a match, the procedure will have unforeseen complications for that person's life.
The walls start to close in on Trevor, whose secret tryst with Finn threatens to come out. Look for Finn to find a surprising new ally as the situation heats up to its boiling point. And loyalties among the college crowd are tested, leading to a major shake-up in relationships and allegiances!
In the series two finale of The Barracuda Blue, watch for there to be a lavish party to celebrate the resorts anniversary. Kymberlynne will work overtime to ensure that Orvilla gets what is coming to her… but Orvilla always seems to be one step ahead of everyone … Paola and Alex take their plan to the next level but it might have dire consequences … Arrow pleads with Leaf to take him back while Liam learns a horrible secret … Rachelle and Nate continue to grow closer unaware that he is playing her for a fool … watch for an epic cliffhanger to close out this series!

One Day at a Time will have two weeks of dailies this summer, the first leading into episode 1200 and the second in August for our 23rd anniversary of being online. The first set of dailies will lead up to the epic conclusion of a three-way custody battle for Olly/Sonny. Who will emerge victorious? His mother, Abby? His biological father, Max? Or the two men that have been raising him since birth, Donovan & Lukas? Watch for huge ramifications once the custody case comes to a close. Heading into our 23rd anniversary online, one of the big storylines will be around Shane & Natasha's planned wedding. With so many secrets coming to light with Shane's past, will they even make it to a wedding? And if they do make it, will they even say "I do"? Odds & Ends: Paige continues to hide her pregnancy from Will … but that can only last so long … Robbie is in for the shock of his life when Madeline returns to Twin Peaks … A murder investigation is opened … Melissa returns to town, just as Andy & Nicholas prepare to marry … Penny will work overtime to get Cory for herself.
