TYING THE KNOT, SOAP STYLE

There are no bigger events in soapdom than a giant, glitzy, over-the-top, dramatic wedding! Here you'll find long suffering super-couples or super-couples-to-be finally saying "I do" under the most extra ways imaginable. 

Sometimes they go off without a hitch, sometimes what goes off is the sound of a gun! OR WORSE, like Ben & Ciara's wedding on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, a bomb! More on that later. 

Every soap wedding after 1981 has Luke & Laura of GENERAL HOSPITAL to thank! You see, back in the 80s, they were one of the biggest couples on daytime TV (despite their very controversial coupling). When their long awaited wedding finally came 30 million people watched - THIRTY! MILLION! Today's soaps would be lucky to net 30 million viewers the whole year. Even superstar superfan Elizabeth Taylor got in the mix and attended the wedding when she joined the cast of GH becoming the first Helena Cassidine, setting the stage for that very long and convoluted feud. Every wedding after this tried to one up the big GH show and some came close.

MELROSE PLACE:

Sydney Andrews lived a lifetime of crazy situations that she schemed and backstabbed herself into and somehow out of - remember her call girl era? Her ways out were mostly by means of more scheming and more backstabbing. But I digress, this was Melrose Place, scheming and backstabbing was like breathing air. Once she was finally rid of her ex-brother-in-law/ex-husband Michael, Syd finally found true love with Craig. Unfortunately, their short-lived love came to an end when their nighttime wedding became a crime scene. You see at the same time Samatha Reilly was kidnapped by her ex-con father. While they were both fighting over the steering wheel of a get-away car escaping the LAPD Sam yanked the steering wheel off course and, ironically, onto the same street as the wedding. The out-of-control car quickly jumps a curb and runs over bride Sydney who was posing for a solo photo right in front of the entire congregation. She was killed instantly. Well, at least we thought she died. Turns out (in the 2009 reboot) she faked her death. Kind of a lousy thing to do to heartbroken widower Craig who, on the OG show, took his own grief-stricken life. 

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Days has cornered the wedding extravaganza in my book. There was Bo & Hope's first wedding in London that happened 40 years ago this year! There was chaos and emotion and so much adventure! Then there's Belle and Philip's wedding when Shawn burst through a church window on a motorcycle, the before mentioned Ciara and Ben's wedding that ended in an explosion, John and Susan's (posing as Kristen) insane Elvis themed wedding with fake teeth flying across the room into Vivian's champaign and so many more!

DARK SHADOWS

Far be it from me to leave out Dark Shadows that threw a not so typical  wedding. Nothing on Dark Shadows was typical of course so when evil warlock Nicholas Blair lures the ever-suffering Maggie Evans into a bewitching marriage to appease his master (a mysterious demonic presence named Diabolos) it became one hell of a wedding—literally! Lucky for Maggie it didn’t pan out and she lived to scream another day.

Abby and Dominic's wedding was crazy on One Day at a Time! As Abby and Dominic are set to say I do, Abby's affair with Dominic's grandson Ethen is exposed and Dominic suffers a medical emergency! On To Benight & Beguile, Jacob manipulates Mary into shooting Sebastian at the alter and he "dies" in his bride Evie's arms. 

And now, Elijah puts a ring on it, when he finally takes Lenny to be his bride on TOWN & COUNTRY. This couple has seen the roughest patch of their lives as Lenny is thankfully recovering from her cancer diagnosis. She’s slowly getting better thanks to the bone marrow Emma donated, which in itself was a shocker. It's only upward from here right??? Let's hope so! These two deserve it!

Oliver -- THE CHANGING TIDES

Dastardly, greedy and incredibly self-assured, Oliver has come to Palmorna to turn their quaint little world upside-down, and for a profit! As his plans continue to take shape the question remains how will the citizens fight back, and will this lead to a "who done it" style story where Oliver is placed in an angry townie's crosshairs? We'll have to wait and see! 

Elly -- FOOTPRINTS

The high stakes attorney has seen her fair share of drama in the courtroom. What's so intriguing about her lately is that she's been pulled into the Loretta murder mystery in a way that certainly puts this legal eagle on the other side of the law. But that all may be a rouse by someone else because Elly has been very close to Trevor and some sort of secret the two are sharing about "THAT NIGHT"... Rosie's been awfully quiet lately too. The puzzle pieces are falling together and Elly seems to be a target!

Shannon -- EUPHORIA

She takes no sh** from anyone, least of all her step-mother Niecy! When Shannon discovered Niecy's secret connection to Paige and how her husband Beau had been hiding this from her too, she was ready to burn it all down. But what's so compelling about Shannon's reactions is that we can all see she's been fighting so much  her life that she can't seem to know when to stop and take a breath. It all stems from her abandonment by her mother Grace. Now that Grace is back home trying to make things better between them, at least from a corporate standpoint, can hard as ice Shannon soften? We'll have to keep reading to see!

Shauna -- TOWN & COUNTRY

Shauna has been through a lot with husband Max and now that there is a new bundle of joy to hug and squeeze she's added just one more layer to her world: Motherhood. But the circumstances of baby Keri's conception was high drama! She and Max were on the outs, she had an affair with Antoine and when the baby was born Max took it on himself to decide to raise the child as his own. But Antoine doesn't seem to take Shauna at her word that Keri isn't his. This puts the good-natured Shauna in a bad place. Will she continue to lie to keep her family together, or will she have to come clean and possibly break Max's heart! 

Elijah -- TOWN & COUNRTY

Half of the #Elenny supercouple, he's grown into a hero of sorts, and it definitely seems he has good karma on the horizon! He stood by Lenny throughout her awful cancer ordeal and now that they're on the way down the aisle, it's good to question where he goes from here. No one ever said happy-ever-after was always a good thing. I can't wait to see where this new soap hero lands! 

Grace -- THE CHANGING TIDES

Spoiled. Entitled. Rich! She's an influencer with a face that haunts her new neighbors thanks to the fact she's a dead-ringer for very dead Emma, her new boyfriend's late girlfriend. Her idea of love seems a bit warped thanks to her scheme of putting poor Daniel through some kind of showmance for her social media footprint which won't win her any allies if exposed. The fascinating this about this new age soap vixen is how she keeps us guessing on how she'll get out of all her tangled webs.

 Abby -- ONE DAY AT A TIME

Speaking of soap vixens, can we talk about Abby for a second! Girl literally was confronted by her three-baby daddy's the day after she gave birth to her second child. She wasn't even out of the bed yet! Abby knows how to weave a scheme into gold but a lot of times, that gold turns to rust just as it did with the realization that Max was baby Sonny's father not, Andrew -- all of this in front of her new baby daddy Ethan who probably should have been more careful than to sleep with his grandfather's soon-to-be bride. Abby is drama with a capital D and we love her for it!

Shane -- ONE DAY AT A TIME

Someone's got a secret!! Twin Peaks is prone to secrets running rampant, but this one is JUICY! Dr. Shane's past life was sort of discovered by accident when Sophie saw his yearbook picture and noticed a different name, Shane's clearly messy explanation did not sit well with his soon to be re-wife Natasha who decided to fake a business trip to Michigan to find out what the eff was going on. So far, we're still in the dark but there are clues popping in on what happened to Shane who's always kept his family life rather hush-hush! This is going to be GOOD! 

Niecy -- EUPHORIA

And on the note of secret pasts, I give you Niecy Jones-Blake AKA Serena Thomas! Niecy came to Knightdale escaping a VERY dark history of abuse by her former husband Elijah -- did I say former? Yeah not so much. Niecy, who's been battling for respect in the Blake family circle just discovered her marriage to horrible monster Eijah in San Diego did not get filed and she's still legally married to a man who put her through hell. Part of her past is already out there for all to see but this laps in marital dissolvement, is going to blow up in ways that Niecy may not be able to come back from. However, she's survived a lot worse, so far be it from me to count this queen out! I'm #TeamNiecy on this one!

Jacqueline -- TO BENIGHT & BEGUILE 

Shakespeare wrote "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned", what he failed to add is that goes double when she's a real-life witch! What I hope has come across for Jacqueline's arc (full disclosure I write Benight) is that when Sebastian first met her she was alone in Boston, the last of her family. She's latched on to Sebastian in a way that doesn't allow her to see life now without him. And for all of her wicked plots and schemes, all she really wants is to be surrounded by love & family, something she's missed for a very long time. She absolutely goes about this in terrible ways, but as BOOK7 continues there may be a light at the end of the very twisted and dark tunnel of Jacqueline's rage. 

BARRACUDA BLUE Series 2

The drama has never been hotter over on the gorgeous beach side resort known as The Barracuda Blue. We caught up with writer/creator Dallas Walsh and he kindly gave us a sneak peek to SERIES 2!!
